Belly Dance is...
Translated in Arabic translation as "raqs sharqi" for Oriental dance. This dance has been dated back in early Egyptian history as far as 4000b.c. Artifacts have been found with images of women in very similar postures and poses that are used today in belly dancing. Belly dancing is a celebration of life and fertility. It began centuries ago, celebrating new crops, the pregnancy of a woman, the birth of a child, weddings, and victories. This art form has traveled over many continents, therefore being influenced by many cultures. It shares song and celebrations with many nations. This dance is as diverse as all of the many nations it has traveled. Belly dance is empowering. It allows you to discover your body, connect with inner thoughts and feelings, and teaches you expression from the soles of your feet to the tips of your hair.

Baton Twirling is...
Baton twirling is an international sport for boys and girls that has been in existence since about the 1950's. Naturally, more often than not it involves a baton, but twirlers will also move on to other objects such as flags, rifles and even flames in middle school, high school and college. Twirlers add exciting visual appeal to a school cheerleading squad, dance team, marching band, drill team, color guard or flag corp.
Twirling Benefits...
develop and enhance hand and eye coordination
practice good posture and marching skills
exercise and condition the body
incorporate dance and rhythm
build self-esteem
establish confidence with themselves and teammates
HAVE FUN!!
As a member and coach the United States Twirling Association (the largest professional organization of the sport), I can ensure consistent standards of baton twirling instruction. I also competed on local, regional and national levels in the sport out of Lynbrook, NY with the Starstrutters under the direction of Denise MacDevitt for six years.
As a mother, athlete, dancer, teacher, mother of athletes, and performers, I understand the need and benefits for children to explore in a safe, supervised and structured environment. My primary goal is to help elevate each students self esteem and confidence while working effectively in a group setting. All the while, having FUN.
